Kebbi Governor Donates Seven Buses to Tertiary Institutions

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has presented seven newly acquired 30-seater buses to tertiary institutions across the state to improve students’ transportation and ease mobility challenges.

‎

‎The buses were formally handed over to representatives of the beneficiary institutions on Wednesday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, in the presence of student leaders.

‎The institutions that received the vehicles are the Federal University of Science and Technology, Aliero; Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu; College of Advanced and Legal Studies, Yauri; Kebbi State College of Science and Technology, Jega; Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari; Kebbi State College of Nursing, Birnin Kebbi; and Kaura Gwandu School of Nursing, Ambursa.

‎

‎Speaking during the handover ceremony, Governor Idris said the decision followed appeals from the Commissioner for Higher Education, institution leaders and other stakeholders over the difficulties students faced in accessing transportation.

‎

‎He urged student union leaders to ensure the buses were properly managed and used strictly for their intended purpose, stressing that the vehicles were primarily provided to serve students rather than institutional management.

‎

‎Earlier, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Isa Abubakar-Tunga, said the state government had doubled the monthly allocation to tertiary institutions from N5 million to N10 million each.

‎

‎The commissioner also disclosed that several academic programmes that lacked accreditation before the present administration assumed office had subsequently secured accreditation.

‎

‎He added that governing councils had been established for all tertiary institutions in the state, except the newly created Kaura Gwandu School of Nursing.

‎

‎Abubakar-Tunga commended Governor Idris for what he described as his sustained commitment to improving education in Kebbi State.
