Nigeria exceeded its Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) crude oil production quota in July 2026, marking the third consecutive month the country has surpassed its allocated target.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), in its July production report released on Wednesday, said the country recorded an average crude oil output of 1.505 million barrels per day during the month.
Nigeria also produced 170,000 barrels per day of condensate, bringing total daily production to 1.67 million barrels. This was above the 1.5 million barrels per day quota assigned to the country by OPEC.
According to the NUPRC, production reached a daily peak of 1.78 million barrels, while the lowest output recorded during the month stood at 1.57 million barrels per day.
Forcados Terminal led production with an average output of 322,340 barrels per day. It was followed by Bonny Terminal, which recorded 303,720 barrels daily.
Qua Iboe Terminal produced an average of 158,020 barrels per day, while Escravos Oil Terminal contributed 131,410 barrels daily. Bonga ranked fifth, with an average production of 100,230 barrels per day.
Despite exceeding its OPEC quota, Nigeria’s overall production declined by four per cent compared with the previous month.
The NUPRC attributed the decline mainly to operational difficulties at the Erha and Akpo oil fields, which affected production volumes and weighed on national output.
The commission, however, said operations across other oil assets remained largely stable, with producers taking steps to maintain efficiency and limit the impact of the disruptions.
It added that routine production and crude evacuation activities continued across the industry, while stakeholders worked to address the challenges affecting the two fields.
The regulator said efforts were also being made to improve the reliability of oil assets and restore lost production capacity, noting that stronger asset management and timely intervention would be important to sustaining growth in Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector.
