White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is set to leave her position at the end of August, according to President Donald Trump.
Trump announced her departure in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, describing Leavitt as one of his most trusted aides. He said she was stepping down to devote more time to her young children and family.
The president also disclosed that Leavitt would continue working with him as one of his leading outside advisers and would remain an influential figure within the Republican Party as the party prepares for the upcoming midterm elections.
Confirming the decision, Leavitt shared a screenshot of Trump’s announcement on X and explained that her decision was largely motivated by her responsibilities as a mother.
She said balancing motherhood with the demanding responsibilities of serving as White House press secretary had been both rewarding and challenging. According to her, returning to the White House after giving birth to her daughter made her realise that she could not give her two young children the time and attention they deserved while maintaining the demands of the job.
Leavitt, 28, made history as the youngest person ever to serve as White House press secretary. She also became the first woman to serve as the White House spokesperson while pregnant.
