The Osun State Government has established a ₦500 million endowment fund in honour of those killed, injured and those who lost property in the events preceding the Osun Governorship election.
Governor Ademola Adeleke announced the fund on Tuesday, saying the gesture was aimed at providing succour to victims and their families.
In a related development, the Adeleke family has offered full scholarships to children of the deceased up to University level.
The government also declared that “no victims’ family will be discriminated against on account of party affiliations.”
To ensure transparency in the disbursement of the fund, Governor Adeleke has set up a verification committee headed by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adewale Egbedun.
The committee is expected to identify and verify all affected persons to guarantee that relief gets to the right beneficiaries.
The announcement has drawn wide reactions across the state, with many describing it as a step toward healing and reconciliation in Osun.
