Taraba: Gov Agbu Urges Newly Elected Chairmen To Apply Knowledge Acquired During 3-day Retreat

Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria – The Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Babangida Hassan, has urged the newly elected Chairmen of the sixteen local governments of the state to apply the knowledge acquired during the just concluded three-day Retreat organized for them.

The Retreat, held from November 22-24, 2023, at Tim Royal Hotel, Jalingo, was aimed at repositioning the local government system of the state in line with Governor Kefas Agbu’s vision of moving the state forward by providing the needed dividends of Democracy across the Sixteen local government areas of the state.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Retreat, Governor Kefas Agbu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance from the state to local government level.

Governor Agbu said the Retreat was a significant occasion to equip the Chairmen with the needed knowledge to succeed in their responsibility.

He also stressed the need for the local government Chairmen to work in collaboration with the state, pay attention to innovation, and proper planning to ensure sustainable development.

The Governor said the theme of the retreat, “Towards a More Effective and Results-Driven Local Governance in Taraba State,” was a reminder to the Chairmen of their responsibility to the people of the state.

“You must use the knowledge you have acquired during this Retreat to make a positive impact on your respective local governments,” Governor Agbu said.

The Retreat was jointly organized by Euclase Resources Limited in conjunction with the Taraba State Government.

The Managing Director of Euclase Limited, Major General Henry Ayamasaowe, thanked the Governor for giving them the task of equipping heads of local government areas in the state for results-oriented leadership.

Major General Henry said that at the end of the exercise, the participants would be oriented on their duties as political leaders and understand the shared responsibility between the three arms of government.

Some of the Local Government Chairmen who spoke to newsmen shortly after the Retreat expressed their gratitude to the Governor for organizing the Retreat and pledged to use the knowledge they acquired to make a positive impact on their respective local governments.

The Chairmen of the sixteen local governments were also presented with Hilux Vehicles for their official duties.
