Nigeria’s First Lady Unveils National Community Food Bank for S’East in Anambra

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has officially unveiled the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East geopolitical zone.

Tinubu performed the ceremony at the old Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia on Thursday, marking a major milestone in the Federal Government’s nationwide food security and social welfare drive.

The South-East zonal food bank initiative is structured to cushion vulnerable groups against economic hardships, directly targeting widows, the elderly, persons with disabilities, nursing mothers, and young children with essential food assistance and nutrition education.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady emphasised that the programme formed a core component of the Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at grassroots development, reducing hunger, and directly improving human capital indices across Nigerian communities.

“This initiative reinforced the Federal Government’s policies aimed at tackling poverty, promoting sustainable agriculture, and strengthening social safety nets in Anambra State and the wider South-East region.

“It demonstrates a reinforced partnership between the Federal Government and the state governments of the region towards inclusive economic growth and societal welfare,” Tinubu added.

The state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr Nonye Soludo recieved the first Lady at the event.

Beyond the food bank unveiling at Amawbia, Senator Tinubu’s official visit to the state also featured a series of developmental engagements including commissioning of a state-of-the-art Information and Communications Technology Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

The centre is designed to equip youths with tech skills including software development, data analysis, and remote-work training.

The first lady added that the project teams up with the Anambra State government’s humanitarian efforts to flag off empowerment grants, vocational tools, and agricultural inputs for thousands of beneficiaries across the state’s 21 local government areas.

The ceremony drew key government figures, dignitaries, and stakeholders.
