Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have foiled a terrorist attack and rescued two kidnap victims in Sokoto.
In a statement on Monday, Aliyu Danja, spokesman for Operation Fansan Yamma, said the operation took place on Sunday.
Mr Danja said troops responded to a distress call following a terrorist attack at Unguwan Lalle in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
He stated that troops made contact with the terrorists, engaged them with firepower, forced them to withdraw in disarray, and rescued two kidnap victims in the process.
“Acting on further information of a terrorist regrouping attempt, troops swiftly mobilised to the location, where they re-established contact and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to withdraw,” Mr Danja said.
He said items recovered from the suspects during exploitation included 157 rounds of PKT ammunition and phone batteries, among others.
Mr Danja said that in another operation, troops arrested a suspected illicit drug peddler in Kaduna on Saturday.
He stated that during a stop-and-search operation along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road, troops intercepted a man, Yohana Musa in possession of a large quantity of illicit drugs and substances while en route to Birnin Gwari.
“The suspect and recovered items are currently in troops’ custody for further investigation,” Mr Danja said.
