UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, has announced plans to return to Nigeria after completing her 10-year tenure at the global organisation.
Mohammed disclosed this during an interview with ARISE News on Monday while discussing her plans after leaving the UN.
She said she would use the experience and networks gained during her time at the UN to contribute to Nigeria and Africa.
“I’m coming home, and I’m very happy to do that. Ten years here, I think, has been a privilege,” she said.
Mohammed said her time at the UN had created networks and increased visibility for women, Nigeria and Africa.
She described Nigeria as a major country and leader in Africa, adding that she hopes to contribute to its development after returning home.
Asked if she would consider seeking political office after leaving the UN, Mohammed said it was not part of her plans.
“No, it doesn’t,” she said.
She acknowledged that returning home after a decade abroad would not be easy but said she believed it was the right decision.
“It’s never easy, but it is the right thing to do. And so, yes, that’s what I hope I do,” she said.
