A former Chairman of Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Yahuza Musa, has been charged to court over the alleged illegal administration of Pentazocine injection to a 63-year-old woman.
He is being prosecuted by the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Chairman of the task force, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, disclosed this on Monday at a press conference in Kano where he briefed the public on the committee’s activities and successes since its inauguration.
According to him, the former local government chairman was arrested following a complaint lodged by the 63-year-old woman, who alleged that Mr Musa illegally administered Pentazocine injection to her.
Mr Rimin-Gado said the task force subsequently received another complaint against the former chairman over the alleged illegal administration of the same injection to a 24-year-old man.
He said the 24-year-old alleged that he had spent N10 million and sold a plot of land to purchase Pentazocine from the former chairman.
“In a landmark operation, the Task Force acted on a complaint of illegal Pentazocine administration to a 63-year-old woman by the former Chairman of Rogo Local Government, Yahuza Musa.
“This was corroborated by a 24-year-old young man who claimed he spent over N10 million and a plot of land on the purchase of the same injection from the former Chairman.
“The former Chairman has since been charged before a competent court of law and the case is ongoing,” Mr Rimin-Gado said.
The chairman said the task force would follow the case to its logical conclusion in accordance with the law.
43 children rescued from drug dealers
Mr Rimin-Gado also disclosed that the task force had secured the conviction of two men, Kabiru Isa, popularly known as Mada, and Usman Hamisu, also known as Mani, for supplying rubber solution, locally known as “sholisho”, to 43 underage children.
He said the children, who were engaged in street scavenging, were allegedly given rubber solution and other substances as payment for their services instead of being properly paid.
According to him, the 43 children have been rescued and subjected to medical examinations.
He said they were currently receiving counselling and treatment while the task force continued efforts to trace their families.
“Some families have already been identified and reunited with their children,” he said.
870,000 Pregabalin capsules seized
The task force chairman further disclosed that about 870,000 capsules of Pregabalin had been seized from one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the state.
He said the drugs were suspected to have been diverted for illicit use.
“This contravenes both the Federal and Kano State policy on warehouse operations for pharmaceuticals, considering where the substance was found,” Mr Rimin-Gado said.
He expressed concern over what he described as evidence of controlled drugs being diverted from legitimate supply chains and sold illicitly to young people.
The chairman called on pharmaceutical companies, pharmacy managers, superintendent pharmacists and other personnel to cooperate with inspections and investigations by the task force.
He urged them to strengthen their internal controls and adopt transparent supply-chain practices.
“No one will be spared if found culpable,” he warned.
380 suspects arrested, 230 convicted
Mr Rimin-Gado said the task force had arrested more than 380 suspects and secured 230 convictions within two months of its inauguration on July 22, 2026.
He said the committee had also recovered assorted illicit substances during joint operations conducted across the state.
According to him, the operations were targeted at dismantling drug joints where illicit substances were allegedly consumed before some of the perpetrators engaged in crimes including thuggery, popularly known as DABA, phone snatching and other social vices.
He listed some of the areas affected by the operations as Race Course, Filin Idi, Filin Mahaha, Tashar Rami, Kawo and Tashar Rimi, among other locations within the metropolis and beyond.
The recovered substances, he said, included Cannabis Sativa, Exol-5, Diazepam, Pentazocine injection, a designer drug containing Methamphetamine, Tramadol, rubber solution and Pregabalin capsules.
Mr Rimin-Gado said the operations had improved coordination among the agencies involved in the fight against drug abuse, while intelligence sharing and grassroots sensitisation had also been strengthened.
He commended security agencies, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,NDLEA, Nigeria Police Force, State Security Service, SSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Nigerian Correctional Service, Hisbah and Kano Road Traffic Agency, KAROTA, for their contributions.
