The Taraba State House of Assembly has received a N148.26 billion supplementary budget proposal for consideration and approval.
The proposal was contained in an executive communication forwarded to the House by the Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas.
Kefas is seeking the lawmakers’ approval for a supplementary budget of N148,262,489,531 for the 2026 fiscal year.
In the letter addressed to the Speaker of the House and dated August 11, 2026, the governor said the supplementary budget was necessary to address strategic needs that were not captured in the state’s original 2026 Appropriation Law.
Kefas said the state initially approved a N653.63 billion budget for 2026, comprising N460.39 billion for capital expenditure and N193.24 billion for recurrent expenditure.
According to him, the state subsequently became eligible for N7 billion monthly in infrastructure financing under the States Discounting Programme, creating a new financing window that was not captured in the original budget.
The governor said the additional resources would support emerging priorities, including security initiatives, infrastructure development and the implementation of the Taraba State Security Advancement and Sustainability Project (SAS-P).
He disclosed that the State Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning had proposed internal adjustments amounting to N176.33 billion.
Of the amount, N44.8 billion would come from the approved 2026 contingency fund and be reallocated to ministries, departments and agencies that had overspent their recurrent expenditure provisions.
He said the remaining N131.53 billion would be handled through virement and budget revision.
According to the governor, the total supplementary budget proposal of N148.26 billion would be funded primarily through N56 billion expected from the States Discounting Programme for the fiscal year, alongside internal borrowing.
Kefas urged the lawmakers to approve the supplementary budget and revision, saying it would enable the state to strengthen capital development and realign expenditure with emerging priorities and fiscal realities.
