The Lagos State Government has arrested 215 suspected street beggars during a fresh enforcement operation carried out across different parts of the state.
‎‎The arrests were made by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) as part of a wider operation targeting street begging and the activities of suspected street urchins.
‎‎Lagos Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, said in a statement on Saturday that those arrested comprised 152 males, 46 females and 17 young adults.
‎According to Wahab, the exercise is aimed at maintaining public order, improving environmental sanitation and creating safer and more orderly public spaces across Lagos.
