The Inspector-General of Police (IG), Olatunji Disu, has appointed Awu Fidelis Jonah as the head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement on Friday, the force spokesman, Ani Iniedu, described Mr Jonah as a seasoned police officer with experience in public complaints management, supervision, criminal investigation, leadership and international peacekeeping.
He stated that over the course of his career, he served in different professional and operational capacities, including as a pioneer member of the CRU, where he rose through several responsibilities to become second-in-command before his current appointment.
“His experience within the CRU spans complaint handling, call-centre operations, supervision, citizen engagement and institutional accountability,” he said.
Mr Jonah holds a Higher National Diploma from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa; a postgraduate diploma in crime management and a master’s degree in criminal justice system from the Kaduna State University.
He also holds a master’s degree in security and strategic studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, and completed the Advanced Detective Course 67 at the Police Staff College, Jos.
Mr Iniedu said he also underwent relevant human rights and professional policing training, adding that between 2022 and 2023, he served as deputy contingent commander of Formed Police Unit Contingent 11 in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Mr Disu charged the new CRU head to ensure prompt responses to public complaints, uphold human rights and promote transparency in handling allegations against police personnel.
