The police command in Oyo State has arrested three suspected armed robbers around Sumal Junction Roundabout, Ibadan.
In a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the incident occurred on Thursday at about 9:15 p.m.
He stated that the DPO of Oluyole Divisional Headquarters received information that some armed men were attacking members of the public and dispossessing them of their belongings around the location.
“Acting promptly on the information, a police patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene,” Mr Olayinka said.
He explained that the team confronted the suspects, leading to the arrest of three individuals identified as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.
According to him, the arrests also led to the recovery of items suspected to have been used in or connected with the criminal activity.
Mr Olayinka said the exhibits recovered included one black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, one cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge.
The police said the items had been secured as exhibits to support further investigation, adding that the suspects confessed to robbing a tricycle driver and two passengers, as well as injuring other persons during their criminal operations.
“The information obtained forms part of the ongoing investigation into the incident and the suspects’ alleged activities,” he said.
He added that the suspects remained in police custody, while the case had been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Eleyele, Ibadan, for discreet and thorough investigation.
