NNPP urges security agencies to pursue Kwankwaso faction

The New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) has called on security agencies to pursue the faction led by its presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. The NNPP made the call following recent unrest in Kano State.

In a statement released on Monday, the NNPP said that it had uncovered evidence that the orchestrated actions were coordinated by Kwankwaso and led by non-Kano indigenes Dipo Johnson, Kawu Alli, and Onu, all expelled members of the NNPP.

The NNPP’s National Chairman, Dr Agbo Major, said that the party was concerned about the escalating issues in Kano State. He noted that violence and killing were not part of the NNPP’s manifesto, and urged Kano residents to pursue peace.

Major emphasized that the tribunal and appeal rulings, asserting Governor Abba Yusuf’s non-membership, resulted from non-compliance with the party’s constitution. He said that Kwankwaso had failed to comply with the party’s constitution and electoral laws, which had led to NNPP’s withdrawal from the MOU and ensuing legal action.

Major also said that Kwankwaso’s high-handed approach had hindered party members from registering as per the law. He said that the NNPP upheld the sanctity of Nigeria and was committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution.

The NNPP also said that it categorically rejected the notion of self-help in addressing matters, and called for legal redress options. The party also denounced the deliberate mischief of expelled members presenting themselves as protest leaders, specifically Dipo Johnson, Kawu Ali, and Onu.

The NNPP’s call for security agencies to pursue Kwankwaso’s faction comes as the party is embroiled in a legal battle with Kwankwaso over his leadership of the party. The NNPP has accused Kwankwaso of hijacking the party and failing to comply with its constitution.

It is unclear what action, if any, security agencies will take in response to the NNPP’s call. However, the statement is likely to further escalate tensions between the NNPP and Kwankwaso’s faction.
