Gombe Becomes a Sanctuary of Sound: Ibi Dave’s Live Recording Proclaims Christ Through Music ‎

By Cliff Stanley

‎On 11 October 2026, Gombe, Nigeria, became more than a host city for a concert; it became a sanctuary of sound, testimony, and spiritual renewal. Acclaimed Gospel Reggae artiste Ibi Dave known offstage as Ibrahim David Gajere led a live recording that united generations of gospel musicians in a powerful declaration that Jesus Christ remains Lord over every generation, culture, and community.

‎The event was not merely an artistic production. It was a deliberate act of worship: ten new songs captured before a live congregation of believers, music lovers, and gospel stakeholders, turning Gombe into a centre where faith, creativity, and mission converged.

‎A Generation United in Worship

‎The strength of the recording lay in its spiritual and generational breadth. Ibi Dave, refined and amiable in both artistry and ministry, stood at the centre as a songwriter and Gospel Reggae voice whose work has consistently carried the message of Scripture into contemporary sound. His background in the church choir and his leadership of No Pranks Music Band International have shaped a ministry rooted in Gombe yet reaching beyond it.

‎‎The presence of respected veterans such as Dave Azi and James Alkali gave the night a sacred continuity. Their artistry represented the foundations upon which younger gospel voices now stand: years of service, spiritual discipline, and a commitment to music as ministry rather than mere entertainment.

‎Alongside them, emerging voices such as Keastring and Pastor Hannah Aisien brought freshness, urgency, and a new expression of praise. The stage therefore became a living picture of Psalm 145:4 “One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.” The old and the new did not compete, they harmonised.

‎‎Gospel Reggae With a Mission

‎Ibi Dave’s contribution to Gospel Reggae is especially significant because reggae, in his hands, is not a borrowed rhythm stripped of meaning. It becomes a vehicle for biblical truth, hope, repentance, and Christ-centred encouragement. His previous works, including “Spirit” and “Karatu,” have been recognised for combining international production standards with a clear commitment to spreading the gospel through music.

‎The Gombe live recording extends that mission. By recording ten new songs before an audience, Ibi Dave created music that carries the warmth of communal worship the responses, prayers, applause, and spiritual atmosphere of God’s people. A live recording preserves not only melodies but also moments of encounter.

‎‎For Northern Nigeria, this matters deeply. Gospel music can strengthen believers, comfort the weary, disciple young people, and present the good news in a language the heart understands. It can also place Gombe firmly on the global map of Christian creativity, showing that spiritually rich, professionally excellent gospel music can emerge from every part of Nigeria.

‎A Spiritual Centre for Gombe

‎The event’s deeper significance is ecclesial and cultural. Gombe has often been described through its geography, politics, or challenges; on this night, it was described through worship. The city became a spiritual centre where the gospel was sung, declared, recorded, and sent forth.

‎Music has always been central to the life of the Church. From the Psalms to the hymns of the early Church, from African choruses to contemporary gospel, song teaches doctrine, unites communities, and carries faith into memory. When believers sing together, they are not simply entertained; they are formed.

‎Ibi Dave’s recording therefore strengthens the gospel in three ways.

‎‎ First, it creates new songs for churches, families, and personal devotion.

‎‎Second, it encourages young artistes in Gombe and across Northern Nigeria to pursue excellence without abandoning conviction.

‎Third, it demonstrates that gospel music can be culturally authentic, spiritually deep, and globally relevant at the same time.

‎

‎An Investment in the Future

‎The endorsement of the concert by the Rydeem of Light International Gospel Reggae Festival underscored its importance beyond Gombe. Festival leaders described the project as an investment in preserving and expanding Nigeria’s Gospel Reggae tradition a recognition that live recordings help document a living musical heritage for future generations.

‎That vision is profoundly Christian. The Church is called to preserve the faith once delivered while communicating it meaningfully to each generation. Ibi Dave’s work embodies this balance: honouring the gospel’s unchanging message while giving it a sound that speaks to today’s listeners.

‎The collaboration between established ministers and rising voices also offers a model for the Nigerian gospel industry. Mentorship, shared stages, and intergenerational worship protect the Church from both nostalgia and novelty. They remind artistes that influence is not measured by fame alone, but by faithfulness to Christ and service to His people.

‎‎A Sound That Will Travel

‎What was recorded in Gombe on 11 October 2026 will not remain in Gombe. Songs travel into homes, vehicles, churches, radio stations, streaming platforms, and nations. They will encourage believers in seasons of trial, lead seekers toward Christ, and remind the Church that praise is a weapon of spiritual strength.

‎Ibi Dave’s live recording was ultimately a proclamation: Jesus Christ is worthy of worship, and Gombe has a voice in the global chorus of gospel music. With veterans anchoring the foundation, new artistes carrying the flame, and a refined gospel artiste at the centre, the night affirmed a timeless truth when God’s people sing, the gospel is strengthened, hearts are awakened, and the name of Jesus is exalted.
