Barcelona Femeni coach Pere Romeu won best women’s team coach of the year on Monday at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony at the London Palladium, England.
Romeu won the prestigious award after guiding Barcelona to win the Spanish League, Copa de la Reina, the Spanish Super Cup and the Champions League last season.
He won the award ahead of Jonathan Giraldes of Olympique Lyon, André of Manchester City, Nils Nielsen of the Japanese national team, and Elena Sadik, formerly of Celtic.
Former Real Madrid coach Rafa Benitez presented the award to Romeu, who was among 11 nominees for Barcelona. Barcelona also won the Women’s Club of the Year award at the ceremony after winning the quadruple.
Speaking after receiving the award, Romeu said, “I would like to congratulate all the candidates. I feel like this is a collective award. I want to thank the players who are fantastic and work to improve every day.
“My staff too; we have to value those who work with us. I am very grateful, and I wish they could all be here to collect the award with me.”
