The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has announced that the 2025 edition of the NWFL Championship will take place in Abia State,South-East Nigeria, from September 11 to 21, 2025.

The Championship, which is the second tier of the women’s football league in the country, continues the NWFL’s 2025 calendar following the successful 2024/25 Premiership Super 6 held earlier this year in Ikenne.

Confirming the development on Monday, Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Modupe Shabi, said a total of 17 clubs have registered for this year’s edition and will be drawn into four groups ahead of the kick-off.

“Our commitment is to ensure that the competition reflects the values of transparency, integrity, and sporting excellence.”

Participating teams are expected to arrive in Abia State on September 11, with the official draws and pre-match meetings scheduled for the following day. Matchday One will commence on September 13, ushering in a series of fixtures that will continue until September 21, with rest days provided between matchdays to ensure proper recovery for the players.

The competition will serve as the pathway for clubs seeking promotion to the Premiership, with four promotion tickets available for the upcoming 2025/2026 season.

At the end of the group campaign, the winners of each group will automatically secure promotion to the elite NWFL Premiership.

All matches will be played at the Abiriba Stadium and the Umuahia Township Stadium, both in Abia State.
