Adamawa Govt. Targets One Million Children For Immunisation Campaign

The Adamawa government says it is targeting no fewer than one million children aged zero to 59 months in its forthcoming vaccination campaign against preventable diseases.

Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farauta disclosed this at the first quarter meeting of the State Task Force on Primary Health Care (PHC) on Tuesday in Yola.

Ms Farauta said the meeting reviewed preparedness and strengthened coordination for key public health interventions.

She commended development partners and stakeholders for their support of PHC delivery and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving services and safeguarding citizens’ health.

Ms Farauta assured continuous support for the successful implementation of the Sub-National Immunisation Plus Days (SNIPDs) scheduled for March 28.

She said the campaign became necessary following the reported circulation of variant poliovirus type 2 (cVPV2) in Gombi Local Government Area and neighbouring states.

Ms Farauta urged parents, caregivers, and community leaders to ensure eligible children were vaccinated.

The deputy governor also expressed concern about a reported meningitis case in Maiha LGA and called for urgent public health action to prevent further spread.

She said preparations were ongoing for the integrated seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) campaign and the distribution of long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs) in selected wards, scheduled to commence in June 2026.

Ms Farauta further stressed the need to strengthen disaster preparedness and response to mitigate the impact of flooding as the rainy season approaches.

The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Felix Tangwami, and the executive chairman of the Primary Health Care Development Agency, Suleiman Bashir, said the meeting reviewed health programmes, coverage, implementation challenges, and strategies for improvement.
