The African Democratic Congress (ADC) experienced a significant digital disruption, with its website crashing three times in just 48 hours due to an influx of visitors eager for membership and information.
This surge in traffic followed the announcement of a new opposition coalition featuring former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, and several other influential political figures.
Unveiled on July 3, the coalition has sparked considerable nationwide interest, with many viewing the website failures as a testament to the growing public desire for political change in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
Demola Olarewaju, Special Assistant on Digital Media and Strategy to Atiku Abubakar, shared the news via social media, highlighting the strain on the ADC’s digital platform. “The ADC website has crashed three times since the coalition was announced,” he stated on X (formerly Twitter). “Nigerians have been waiting for an alternative to APC, and it is already making its presence known.”
