Ado Ibrahim, Ohinoyi of Ebiraland: A Life of Legacy, By Omonu YG Nelson 

His Royal Majesty Alhaji (Dr) Ado Ibrahim, the paramount ruler of Ebiraland and vice chairman of Kogi State Traditional Council, passed away on October 29, 2023, at the age of 95. He was a revered figure in Ebiraland and beyond, known for his wisdom, leadership, and philanthropy.

The Royal father was a remarkable individual who left a lasting legacy on Ebiraland and Nigeria. He was a visionary leader, a compassionate philanthropist, and a wise counselor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ibrahim’s life was a testament to the power of education, hard work, and dedication. He was an inspiration to many, and his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The recipient of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), one of Nigeria’s highest national honours was born on February 7, 1929, in Okene, Kogi State, Nigeria. He was the son of Ibrahim Onoruoiza, the second Atta (now “Ohinoyi”) of Ebiraland. Ibrahim received a blend of Western and Quranic education. He began his primary education in 1940 at the Native Authority (NA) primary school in Okene. He later attended Ondo Boys High School and Oduduwa College, where he graduated in 1949. In 1954, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, followed by a master’s degree from Harvard Business School in 1959.

After completing his education, Ibrahim returned to Nigeria and worked in various capacities, including as a civil servant, businessman, and educator. He also served as the chairman of the board of directors of several companies.

In 1997, Ibrahim ascended to the throne of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland. He was the second Ohinoyi and the fourth independent traditional ruler of Ebiraland. During his reign, Ibrahim oversaw the construction of the Azad Palace, one of the most stunning palaces in West Africa. He also played a key role in promoting peace, unity, and development in Ebiraland.

Ibrahim was a renowned philanthropist. He established the Ado Ibrahim Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to students from Ebiraland and other parts of Nigeria. He also funded the construction of schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure projects in Ebiraland.

Ibrahim was a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the service of his people. He will be remembered for his wisdom, compassion, and commitment to making Ebiraland a better place.

In an insightful interview during his 93rd birthday, Ibrahim shared numerous aspects of his life and personality, offering valuable insights into the man behind the regal title.

Ibrahim spoke about the importance of education, stating that it was the key to success and development. He also emphasized the need for unity and cooperation among the people of Ebiraland.

Ibrahim was a devout Muslim, and his faith played a significant role in his life. He believed in the importance of living a moral and ethical life.

Ibrahim was also a man of humor and wit. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He was also a member of the National Council of Traditional Rulers and a strong advocate for the rights of women and children.
