In an interview with Counter Attack Podcast, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen shared the conversation he had with teammate Semi Ajayi before scoring an acrobatic goal against Benin Republic in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
“I told him in Yoruba, ‘filẹ, filẹ,’ meaning ‘leave it’ so he understood what I meant, and then he left it,” Osimhen said, recalling the moment he urged Ajayi to let him take the shot.
Osimhen’s goal, which came off the bench in the second half, contributed to Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Benin at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. Ademola Lookman scored a brace during the encounter.
When asked about the goal, Osimhen said, “I have watched it close to like ten times… The last training before the game, me, Aina, Awoniyi, and Wilfred, we were doing this same practice, we did it more than ten times to be able to just do the cross inside the penalty box.”
