The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $70 million grant to support youth empowerment in five regions of Northern Ghana. The project aims to address poverty, inequality, and unemployment among young people in the region.
“This project represents our commitment to tackling the foundational causes of fragility, poverty, exclusion, and lack of opportunity, by investing in people and systems that build community resilience and hope,”* said Dr. Joseph Ribeiro, African Development Bank Deputy Director General for West Africa, and Country Manager for Ghana.
The project will focus on providing skills training, entrepreneurship support, and job creation opportunities for young people in the regions. It will also support women-led micro and small enterprises and promote inclusive growth.
*”Our priority is to facilitate increased synergy between large international organizations and local entities to work together to spur inclusive growth,”* said Carol Anang, Country Manager for Invest in Africa, Ghana.
The AfDB’s initiative is expected to benefit thousands of young people in Northern Ghana, providing them with opportunities to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the country’s economic development.
