African artists have earned a whopping $58 million on Spotify, with Nigerian and South African artists leading the charge. Burna Boy and Tyla are among the top earners, thanks to the global popularity of Afrobeats and Amapiano.
Burna Boy’s monthly earnings stand at $782,148, cementing his status as one of Africa’s most bankable stars. Tyla’s monthly earnings are $607,804, making waves with her catchy Amapiano sound. Other top earners include Wizkid, with $1 million monthly, Tems with $660,210, and Davido with $458,615.
The surge in earnings is attributed to the growing global appeal of African music, particularly Afrobeats and Amapiano. Spotify’s expansion into African markets has fueled this growth, with local listeners boosting ad revenue and earnings for artists.
“Nigerian music reached a financial milestone, with royalties exceeding ₦58 billion in 2024—more than double the figure from 2023 and five times greater than 2022,” says Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Spotify’s Managing Director.
The global appeal of Afrobeats has propelled Nigerian artists to new heights, driving massive streaming numbers worldwide. Independent artists have also seen notable growth, generating over $5 billion from Spotify in 2024. South African artists generated 400 million rand ($20.9 million) in 2024, further solidifying the continent’s music industry growth.
