“Use Easter To Pray For Peace, Salvation Of Our State” – SDP’s Ajaka Charges Kogi Christians

By Omonu YG Nelson

Abuja, Nigeria – April 6, 2024 – The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in November 11 2023 governorship election in Kogi State, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, has strongly condemned the recent massacre in Agojeju-Odo and other communities in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.

He also called for the state government to take immediate action to protect its citizens and urged the federal government to declare a state of emergency.

“I condemn in strong terms the reoccurring maiming and killing of innocent kogites,” Ajaka said in a statement. “The life of every kogite is sacred and important.”

Ajaka lamented the state government’s inaction and placed the blame for the ongoing violence on their shoulders. “It is the responsibility of the state government to protect the masses against internal and external aggression,” he asserted. “It is high time the state government sit-up to its primary responsibility of securing Kogi state.”

He further called on the federal government to intervene, stating, “The safety of lives is the first priority in governance, if the current leadership cannot handle the crises let the federal government step into the crisis.” Ajaka specifically requested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declare a state of emergency in Kogi due to the severity of the situation.

Ajaka also offered his condolences to the families of the victims and appealed for humanitarian assistance for those displaced by the conflict.

This latest outbreak of violence adds to the growing unease in Kogi State. Ajaka’s statement reflects the frustration of many residents who feel the government is failing to protect them. It remains to be seen how the state and federal governments will respond to these calls for action.
