Alleged Attempt At Inciting Public Disorder: IGP, Lagos CP Urged To Call Okoyas To Order

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, have been urged to call RAO Property Investment limited, a company owned by Chief Okoyas and his wife, Shade, to order over alleged attempt to cause a breakdown of law and order.

Human rights lawyer and legal practitioner, Dr Maxwell Opara,
made the call in Abuja on Friday during a press briefing.

Explaining the rationaL behind his outcry, the eminent lawyer said Green Birch Tech leased a mini estate from RAO Property Investment limited, a company owned by Chief Okoya and his wife Shade, since 2021.

And while the tenancy was still running, the Okoyas allegedly went with thugs and some illegal Police to invade the estate, causing damages to the property. Green Birch Tech incurred huge expenses in the cost of develop the property to the current modern standard.

According to our source, immediately they saw the current value of the property, they changed from three million naira per annum rent on each 3 bedroom flat to 12 million. And all these are happening while the rent is yet to expire.

Also according to the narrative, while negotiations were still on, RAO Property Investment limited started sent letters to tenants to stop paying rent to Green Birch Tech. They went to the extent of boasting that Nigeria is in their hands and that they would get a fair judgement within six months, which they did in at Lagos High Court before Green Birch Tech appealed the judgement.

In addition, Green Birch Tech applied for Alternative Disputes Resolution (ADR). While discussion was still on to negotiate a fair price, they started demanding Green Birch Tech vacate the property.

“My client (Green Birch Tech)
requested to be given up till December 2027 to enable it recoup its Investments in the property. RAO Property Investment limited vehemently refused the request and, instead, resorted to lawlessness with the use of thugs.

“They went behind us to tell our tenants not to pay but they are asking us to pay even when the case is already in court

“They wrote earlier for us to pay 12 million naira, not considering anything about our own tenant, from 3 million to 12 million when our own tenants don’t pay us,

All the while our fight has been on price and they now shifted to 4.5 million and 6 million How do they expect us to pay? Instead we remained in court till court decided, only to find out they had dubbed Senator Domingo on the said property. As it stand in a real sense they don’t even owe valid right to the property, we got letter from Senator Domingo legal counsel, the CEO of Dajo Oil, put us on NOTICE and beware of dealing with the Okoyas as the Original C of O on that property are under his custody after paying money to the Okoyas. The Okoyas are not above the law and must respect the rule of law he said.
