The Anambra State Government has denied that it is building a second airport at Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the government said the story is false and “at best speculative.”
Officials believe rumors may have grown after a recent visit to the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC). Some people assumed the industrial park would require its own airport, Mefor suggested.
He clarified that the site tour was for technical studies to assess possible locations if needed in future for transport infrastructure under the master plan for the new city.
The AMIC plan is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision to make Anambra a smart, economically vibrant state.
It includes innovations in industry, housing clusters, business districts, education, medical facilities, tourism, logistics, and transportation, such as rail and airport systems.
The government says no decision has been made about whether a railway or airport will be built specifically for AMIC. Confirmation will come only through official announcements.
AMIC is expected to draw investment and boost jobs. It’s backed by significant funding, including $250 million from Afreximbank to support infrastructure under the master plan, with roads, power, agro-processing zones, and industrial hubs among its components.
The government warned the public to ignore the false report and rely only on confirmed statements for major projects.
