The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has issued a stern warning to popular social media influencer, VeryDarkMan, aka Martins Vincent Otse.
CP Orutugu cautioned VeryDarkMan against making statements or taking actions that could incite tension or breach public peace in the state. “We will not allow anyone, regardless of social status, to disrupt the existing peace and security architecture of the State,” CP Orutugu emphasized ¹.
This warning comes amid the family’s request for privacy following the murder of Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekere, Managing Director of Fish Magnet outlet. The family has publicly dissociated themselves from any proposed candlelight procession or memorial gathering in his name, pleading for space to grieve privately.
CP Orutugu reassured residents and visitors that Anambra State remains one of the most peaceful in the region, thanks to sustained efforts by the Police and other security agencies. He urged everyone to go about their lawful duties without fear, affirming the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
“We advise social media users and public figures to exercise restraint and avoid spreading misinformation or making inciting remarks,” CP Orutugu added.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, warned that anyone found undermining public peace, online or offline, will face the full weight of the law. This development follows VeryDarkMan’s recent peaceful walk in Awka, the Anambra State capital, to raise awareness about insecurity in the state.
