A primary school head teacher in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra has been suspended indefinitely for permitting a political rally within the school premises.
The state commissioner for education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, issued the directive in a statement on Wednesday in Awka.
The Anambra State Ministry of Education issued a circular on August 14 banning the use of school premises for political, social, and religious gatherings.
Mrs Chuma-Udeh said the head teacher at Community Primary School, Umunze, violated the ministry’s standing order prohibiting all forms of unauthorised gatherings in schools.
She expressed concern about the disruption to academic activities and the risk to pupils during the rally.
“The state government is preparing to take legal action against the organisers of the rally, which disrupted learning and endangered the lives of the children,” Mrs Chuma-Udeh stated.
Earlier on Wednesday, there was mild drama when the chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Shedrack Azubuike, stopped an unapproved political rally at a primary school.
Mr Azubuike said his action was in line with a directive banning political, religious, or social gatherings in both public and private schools across the state during school hours.
