The All Progressives Congress, APC, Cross River State Chapter, has congratulated Professor Offiong Efanga Offiong on his appointment as Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, describing the development as a well deserved honour for a man of proven academic excellence, leadership and service.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon Emmanuel Edem Inyang, the party, on behalf of the State Chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, and members of the State Executive Committee, lauded Professor Offiong’s elevation, noting that it reflects his lifelong devotion to scholarship, mentorship and public service.
The party stated that from his early years as a young lecturer to becoming a Professor of Chemistry, Professor Offiong has demonstrated passion for knowledge development, capacity building and the advancement of humanity.
The APC recalled that during his tenure as Commissioner for Education from 2007 to 2015, the state witnessed a remarkable transformation in the education sector. Schools across the eighteen local government areas benefited from infrastructural and academic improvements, while the performance of Cross River students in national examinations recorded significant progress.
The statement further highlighted his contribution to the establishment of the Institute of Technology and Management in Ugep, as well as the reopening of the College of Education, Akamkpa, which has now evolved into the University of Education and Entrepreneurial Studies.
Commending his character, the APC described Professor Offiong as a man who has served with integrity, humility and passion both in academia and public service. The party said his appointment is a source of pride to Cross River State and to all who appreciate excellence.
“We rejoice with you and your family on this milestone and pray that God grants you wisdom, strength and grace to lead the University of Calabar to greater heights,” the statement read.
The party assured Professor Offiong of its support and expressed confidence that his leadership would consolidate Unical’s academic standards, research growth and institutional development.
