Apple plans smart doorbell with Face ID for smarter home security

Apple plans smart doorbell with Face ID for smarter home security

Apple is reportedly developing a new smart doorbell device that features Face ID technology, expanding its reach into home security.

The tech giant has not made an official announcement, but reports suggest that the company is quietly working on the product, which could bring facial recognition to the doorstep in a seamless and privacy-focused way.

The idea is to offer homeowners an added layer of convenience and safety. With Face ID integrated into the doorbell, users may be able to unlock doors or verify visitors using the same facial recognition system found in iPhones and iPads. The technology could also link with existing Apple devices, allowing notifications and live video feeds to appear directly on iPhones, iPads, or even Apple Watches.

The device is believed to be designed and tested by Apple’s hardware and software teams, who are exploring how it could work smoothly within the Apple Home ecosystem. If launched, this doorbell could be compatible with other Apple services such as HomeKit and iCloud, giving users remote access and control over their home security.

The move shows Apple’s growing interest in smart home products. While the company already offers devices like HomePods and Apple TVs that work as home hubs, a smart doorbell with facial recognition would be a first. It would also position Apple to compete more directly with companies like Amazon’s Ring and Google’s Nest, both of which already offer video doorbells but without Face ID.

Apple has not yet confirmed a release date, but analysts believe the product could be introduced at a future hardware event or quietly rolled out as part of a broader home technology update. Whether it becomes a mainstream success may depend on pricing, privacy features, and how well it works within Apple’s current ecosystem.

As more people seek easy-to-use and reliable home security solutions, this move could mark a new chapter in Apple’s strategy to be part of daily life beyond smartphones and laptops. For now, customers will have to wait and watch to see how the project unfolds.
