Armed men have abducted a senior Nigerian Army officer, identified as Lieutenant Colonel Josiah, from his lodge in Bomadi, Delta State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, shortly after the officer returned from a wedding ceremony at Kpakiama, a neighbouring community to Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers stormed the lodge between 2:00 am and 2:30 am, ransacking rooms and confiscating mobile phones from occupants before seizing the officer.
“They searched every room, took people’s phones, and dragged the officer outside. They even fired a shot before leaving with him in their vehicle. Blood was seen on the ground after they left,” a source recounted.
The abduction has sparked tension across Bomadi, with soldiers of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Bomadi Division, intensifying patrols in the town and surrounding communities.
It was later learnt that the vehicle used in the operation was discovered abandoned in Tuomo community, along the Tuomo–Ogbobagbene–Tamigbe–Torugbene–Ojobo road. The vehicle has since been recovered and moved to the JTF base at Bomadi-Overside.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but a manhunt for the abductors is underway.
