A Lagos teacher, Stella Nwadigbo, has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Recall that she was arraigned on Thursday before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court by the Lagos State Police Command after being caught on camera allegedly assaulting a three-year-old pupil at Christ Mitot School, Ikorodu.
According to a further report, the prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the incident occurred on January 7 while Nwadigbo was teaching the child to write numerals.
The footage reportedly showed her slapping and hitting the boy during the lesson.
The alleged offence violates Sections 135 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate O. Kushanu granted Nwadigbo bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The court directed that the case be adjourned until February 18 for further mention.
Nwadigbo, a resident of Isawo in Ikorodu, has since denied the allegations, while the legal proceedings are expected to shed more light on the matter.
