The summer transfer window is heating up early, with top European clubs making bold moves to reshape their squads after a turbulent season.
Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool are already active in the market, setting the tone for what could be a dramatic few months.
Manchester United are pressing forward with their first major signing of the window. Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha is on the verge of a move to Old Trafford from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the deal reportedly worth over £60 million. After a disappointing campaign under Ruben Amorim, who failed to bring stability, United are keen to rebuild. Departures are also expected, and the future of captain Bruno Fernandes remains uncertain amid growing transfer interest.
Arsenal appear close to finalising their first addition of the summer, with Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi preparing for a medical. The Gunners view him as a key part of their midfield overhaul. Following that breakthrough, attention has shifted to the forward line. Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres is a top target, and while Arsenal have not made a formal bid yet, the Portuguese club has reportedly set the asking price at €80 million (£67 million). Gyökeres is considered a better fit than RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško, who carries a steeper valuation of around £93 million.
Liverpool, fresh off their latest Premier League triumph, are looking to keep their momentum going. With Trent Alexander-Arnold on his way out, the club is closing in on Jeremie Frimpong as a potential replacement. A new striker could also be on the cards, with Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt drawing strong interest from both Liverpool and Chelsea.
Elsewhere in England, Newcastle United are eyeing reinforcements and could turn to domestic rivals. Defender Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo are both being monitored as the club looks to build on a solid season.
In Spain, Real Madrid have joined the race for German star Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen playmaker, who flourished under Xabi Alonso, could follow his current manager to the Bernabéu if a deal is struck. Atlético Madrid, meanwhile, are targeting Villarreal midfielder Álex Baena and Tottenham’s Cristian Romero. Spurs are reportedly asking for €70 million (£58.7 million) for the World Cup-winning defender, a price Atleti may be reluctant to meet.
With the Club World Cup looming and short-term windows opening for some, clubs are moving quickly to complete deals. The transfer market is just getting started, but the early moves suggest a summer full of major changes across Europe’s top leagues.
