Nigerian football sensation Asisat Oshoala has taken a significant step towards joining Saudi Women’s League side Al Hilal. The 30-year-old Super Falcons legend arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday to undergo medical examinations ahead of the transfer.
According to reports, Bay FC and Al Hilal reached an agreement on an undisclosed transfer fee, paving the way for Oshoala to join the Blue Waves. The deal was finalized before the transfer window closed, with Al Hilal expecting Oshoala’s experience and goals to boost their title aspirations.
Oshoala’s move to Al Hilal marks a new chapter in her illustrious career, which has spanned four continents. She’ll join compatriots Ashleigh Plumptre (Al Ittihad) and Rita Chilwelu (Al-Riyadh) in the Saudi League, further solidifying Nigeria’s presence in the Gulf.
The transfer comes after Oshoala’s playing time with Bay FC dwindled, with head coach Albertin Montoya citing her defensive contributions as a concern. Despite scoring eight goals in 38 appearances for Bay FC, Oshoala’s role was limited, with only five starts this season.
Oshoala’s impressive resume includes six African Women’s Footballer of the Year awards and a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title with Nigeria. Her experience and firepower are expected to strengthen Al Hilal’s attacking options.
With her medical exams completed, Al Hilal is set to officially announce Oshoala’s arrival, further expanding the Saudi League’s global footprint.
