Following the resolution of National Executive Council of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU,resolution at University of Ibadan, Federal University of Kashere branch on Tuesday organised solidarity rally demanding governing councils to intervene.
Our correspondent reported that the lecturers were allegedly victimised at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo; Kogi State University (KSU) Ayingba; Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki; Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma; Chukwuemeka Odumegu Ojukwu University (OOU), Igbariam and Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).
Addressing members separately during the protest which took place on campus, the branch Chairman; Dr Shehu El-Rasheed, and Secretary; Mohammed Musa, decried challenges of their colleagues, urging the governing councils of the affected institutions to restate, promote and pay withheld salaries.
El-Rasheed said, “Our colleagues in these Universities are undergoing different forms of victimization such as illegal termination of appointments, denial of promotions, withholding of salaries.
“Some of the cases are in courts of law but because of unnecessary delays in passage of judgement by the courts handling the cases, the affected colleagues are facing untold hardship under this difficult economic situation.
“We hold the belief that justice delayed is justice denied.”
While demanding justice following their prolonged ordeals, El-Rasheed harped the need for governing councils to resolve the issues which have brought hardships to the affected members.
“The ASUU-FUK is calling on the concerned governing councils and visitors of the respective universities to take decisive action to resolve the lingering issues to pave
way for a smooth operation of the Universities,” he added.
