Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has sharply criticised Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of being a “transactional politician” whose loyalty is driven by personal ambition rather than principles.
In a statement issued Thursday by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed responded to Wike’s criticism of his opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills, describing the minister’s comments as “baseless” and “hypocritical.”
Accusations of Political Opportunism
The statement highlighted what it called Wike’s inconsistent political allegiance, pointing out his shift from being a staunch member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to openly supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while still claiming PDP membership.
“Wike now champions the re-election of the APC administration in 2027, betraying the PDP, the very platform that nurtured his political career,” Gidado said. “His chameleonic behaviour raises serious questions about his credibility and moral compass.”
Governance Over Friendships
Governor Mohammed also dismissed Wike’s claim that they are not friends, emphasizing that governance should be about competence and vision, not personal relationships.
“Should Wike ever engage in genuine self-reflection and align with true leadership, Senator Bala Mohammed would welcome him. Until then, his friendship or lack thereof is inconsequential to Bauchi’s progress and Nigeria’s democratic development,” the statement concluded.
Wike Under Fire
The remarks are the latest in a series of political clashes between prominent figures as the 2027 elections draw closer. While Wike has yet to officially respond, the exchange highlights growing tensions within the PDP and between opposition and ruling party allies.
