Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the party’s reputation and ensuring its unity.
Speaking at the PDP North-East Zonal Caucus meeting in Bauchi, Mohammed emphasized that he and other party leaders remain dedicated to upholding the integrity of the party. He assured members that all necessary steps were being taken to strengthen the party’s internal cohesion.
“We are committed to ensuring that our zone remains a stronghold of the PDP. Our unity is crucial, and we will not allow divisions to weaken us. We are here to serve and protect the party’s legacy,” he stated.
PDP’s Efforts Toward Reconciliation
Mohammed revealed that party leaders from the North-East had met with the reconciliation committee set up by the National Working Committee (NWC). According to him, the North-East remains one of the most stable zones within the party, with minimal internal disputes compared to other regions.
“The meeting reaffirmed our commitment to working together for the good of the party. We must continue to uphold our principles and ensure we do not bring shame to the PDP,” he said.
He also highlighted the various development projects undertaken by PDP governors, stressing that these initiatives align with the party’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians.
“We bring different projects and programmes that directly impact the aspirations of our people. We remain loyal to our zone and our various chapters, including those without governors, and we will continue to provide support,” he added.
Call for Unity and Collective Action
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, who was also present at the meeting, described the reconciliation efforts as timely, given the internal challenges the PDP has faced in recent years. He emphasized that collective action is necessary for the party to reclaim its leadership role at the national level.
“We must work together to resolve our differences. If we do not reconcile, we will struggle to regain power. Unity is our greatest strength, and we must prioritize it,” Fintiri said.
Chairman of the reconciliation committee, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, echoed similar sentiments, assuring members that the PDP is taking proactive steps to address internal disputes and reposition itself for victory in the 2027 general election.
“The party is ready to tackle its challenges head-on. With unity and focus, we can rebuild and reclaim our position in national leadership,” Oyinlola stated.
Looking Ahead
As the PDP continues its reconciliation efforts, party leaders remain optimistic about the future. With strengthened unity and a renewed focus on development, they believe the party can reclaim its influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Governor Mohammed reiterated that PDP governors will continue to work for the betterment of their states and the party. “Our priority is to serve our people and protect the ideals of the PDP. We will remain steadfast in our commitment,” he assured.
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge from party members to remain united and work collectively toward victory in the next elections.
