Eight additional bodies of police personnel have been recovered after an ambush in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack, which happened last Friday at Agu Centre, involved a combined team of police officers and members of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards who ran into armed herdsmen and local militia gangs during a clearance operation between Tse Agbami and Agu Centre on the border with Ukum.
The ambush led to the deaths of several officers, with operational vehicles set ablaze and motorbikes taken by the attackers. While three bodies were found on Saturday, more searches continued in the area for those who went missing.
On Sunday night, eight more bodies of slain officers were recovered in an operation led by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, bringing the total number of recovered corpses to eleven. The atmosphere in the area remains tense as security officials maintain their presence.
The Benue State Police Command has not yet released an official statement on the incident.
