A member of the Benue State House of Assembly, Alfred Emberga, has emerged as the new speaker of the assembly.
Mr Emberga is one of the four members suspended on Friday for allegedly plotting the removal of the former speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh.
In a session on Sunday presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Lami Danaldi-Ogenyi, the house lifted the suspension on the four members.
The ex-speaker resigned from his position on Sunday.
Mr Dajoh’s resignation letter was posted on his Facebook wall on Sunday.
The lawmaker indicated that his resignation as the speaker of the 10th assembly took effect from August 24.
He stated, “This is done in faith and in the best interest of the state.’’
Mr Dajoh expressed appreciation to his colleagues for the opportunity given to him to serve and to be the first among equals.
He pledged to remain committed to his duties as a legislator and representative of Gboko West State Constituency.
