The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria BON has announced that Cross River State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu, alongside Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State and Uba Sani of Kaduna State, will be honoured at the second edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards scheduled for April 8, 2026, in Abuja.
The ceremony will be held at the NAF Conference Centre and is expected to attract key stakeholders in Nigeria’s broadcast industry.
In a statement issued by the Executive Secretary of BON, Yemisi Bamgbose, the organisation said the governors are being recognised for their consistent support for the media sector and their contributions to the advancement of broadcasting in the country.
The statement described the trio as “partners in progress whose commitment to media development continues to inspire institutional growth and professional excellence.”
BON noted that the awards ceremony, scheduled to run from 6pm to 9pm, represents a significant step in its ongoing efforts to celebrate excellence and promote best practices in the broadcast industry.
Highlighting the basis for the recognition, the organisation stated that the governors have shown “remarkable goodwill and strategic support for media institutions,” adding that honouring such leadership would encourage stronger collaboration between government and the media.
The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards, endorsed by BON’s 74th General Assembly in 2021, have evolved into a credible platform for recognising excellence in the sector. BON reiterated that the awards aim to promote quality media practice and celebrate outstanding contributions to broadcasting in Nigeria.
According to the organisation, the 2026 edition attracted 204 entries drawn from broadcast performances in 2024. The selection process was conducted by a committee chaired by Danladi Bako, alongside representatives of regulatory bodies and veteran broadcasters, and was described as thorough, transparent and reflective of high industry standards.
Beyond the governors’ recognition, awards will be presented across 24 competitive categories, including radio and television stations of the year, best reporter, best newscaster and best producer.
BON added that the ceremony will also honour individuals whose lifetime contributions have significantly shaped the growth and development of broadcasting in Nigeria, while reaffirming its commitment to fostering professionalism, innovation and integrity within the industry.
