Brandon Blackstock, known for his marriage to singer Kelly Clarkson and his connection to country legend Reba McEntire, has died at the age of 48 after a battle with cancer that lasted more than three years.
His family confirmed his passing, stating that he died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Blackstock was previously married to Clarkson from 2013 to 2020, and the two share two children, River and Remington.
He was also the former stepson of Reba McEntire through her marriage to his father, Narvel Blackstock, which ended in 2015.
Clarkson, currently performing in Las Vegas, postponed the remaining August dates of her “Studio Sessions” residency to be with her children during this difficult time.
She had already delayed the opening night of the show last month due to what was initially referred to as a family emergency.
In a social media message, Clarkson explained her need to prioritize her children, given their father’s illness.
She also expressed appreciation to fans who had purchased tickets and showed understanding and patience.
Blackstock had once worked as Clarkson’s manager through his father’s music management company, and their professional relationship evolved into a personal one.
After nearly seven years of marriage, they separated in 2020, finalizing their divorce in 2022. Clarkson was awarded primary custody of their children.
Earlier this year, Clarkson marked her 1,000th episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” though her appearances had been inconsistent during that time, with multiple guest hosts stepping in.
She returned briefly in March before stepping away again for a short period.
Blackstock’s passing marks another emotional chapter for Clarkson, who has been managing her career while raising two young children and coping with public and private challenges since their split.
His loss is being mourned by family, friends, and those who followed his story in the public eye.
