BREAKING: EndBadGovernance: Tinubu Directs Immediate Release of Detained Minors
President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate release of minors arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests in August. This decision follows widespread outrage over the arrest and arraignment of children .
Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, announced this directive after President Tinubu swore in seven newly appointed ministers. The President emphasized that the release should occur without prejudice to ongoing legal processes.
Additionally, President Tinubu instructed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to ensure the minors’ welfare and reunion with their parents or guardians. A committee, spearheaded by the humanitarian affairs ministry, will investigate the minors’ arrest, detention, treatment, and release.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, also requested the case file of the EndBadGovernance protesters, ordering the Nigeria Police Force to transfer the file to his office ¹. This move aims to review the matter and consider bringing the adjournment date forward.
