BREAKING: Kwankwaso Resigns From NNPP Amid Planned Defection to ADC

By Achile Danjuma

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has formally resigned from the party with immediate effect.

In a personal press statement on Sunday, Kwankwaso, who also served as the party’s National Leader, said the decision was difficult but necessary given the nation’s current political trajectory.

“Considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation,” the former Kano State governor said.

Kwankwaso expressed profound gratitude to the party’s National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, the National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, and the National Executive Committee for their support throughout his tenure.

He also thanked the party’s leadership at all levels — from ward to state — as well as legacy members and followers of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

“We shall continue to collaborate and work together towards charting a better and more prosperous future for our dear nation,” the statement read.

Kwankwaso, who holds a PhD and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), did not immediately name which political platform he intends to join next, but this online newspaper believes ADC will be his next political platform considering the announcement made by the Kwankwasiya movement prior to his resignation from NNPP today.

His resignation marks a significant shift in the opposition political space, as he was widely seen as the arrowhead of the NNPP’s national appeal, particularly in the North-West.
