The Cross River State Police Command has clarified reports circulating online alleging a herdsmen attack and destruction of farmlands in Odukpani Local Government Area, describing the claims as false and misleading.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, the Command conducted an on-the-spot assessment at Atan Okoyong community following the viral video. The investigation revealed that no recent conflict has occurred between herders and farmers in the area.
Preliminary findings suggest that a trailer seen evacuating cattle along the Calabar–Itu Highway may have contributed to the spread of misinformation. Engagements with local stakeholders confirmed that the community remains peaceful.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports, avoid sharing content capable of causing panic, and report suspicious activity through the Control Room at 0704 177 7060 or the Police Complaint Response Unit at 0813 708 3052.
ASP Sunday reassured residents that the Cross River State Police Command remains committed to maintaining peace and security, emphasizing its continuous protection of lives and property.
