President of the National Apex of Cashew Farmers, Processors, and Marketing Cooperative Ltd (Cashco), Yunusa Gabriel Enemali, has announced a national initiative to promote sustainable and climate-resilient cashew farming practices.
The initiative aims to support the development of a climate-resilient cashew industry in Nigeria, improving the livelihoods of cashew farmers, processors, and marketers.
“We are committed to promoting the adoption of climate-resilient cashew farming practices among our members,” Enemali said. “This includes the use of drought-tolerant varieties, conservation agriculture, and integrated pest management.”
The initiative’s objectives include advocating for supportive policies, improving productivity and quality, enhancing farmers’ livelihoods, and mitigating climate change. The cooperative plans to partner with public and private sectors to develop the cashew sector and add value.
Enemali emphasised the importance of collective action in achieving these goals, stating, “Through this initiative, we aim to create a more sustainable and prosperous future for our members and the entire cashew industry.”
