Cashewapex Holds Sensitisation Workshop on Carbon Credit Creation for Farmers in Anyigba

The National Apex of Cashew Farmers, Processors & Marketing Cooperative Ltd (Cashewapex) has held a sensitisation workshop in Anyigba, Dekina local government of Kogi State.

The event, which took place on Saturday, May 31st, was a train-the-trainers programme aimed at empowering rural cashew farmers.

The team from Cashewapex was led by the President of the cooperative, Yunusa Gabriel Enemali, and QFN CCC, led by Marcus Idoko, representing the team from the Netherlands on carbon credit creation. The sensitisation centered on the new cashew cooperative and the benefits of carbon credit creation.

According to Enemali, the cashew cooperative is a priority for the current government, particularly the Department of Cooperative, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. “Cashew cooperative is on the front burner of the present government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security,” he stated.

The team explained that cashew production offers several benefits, including carbon credit creation. QFN CCC specialises in carbon credit creation, and their partnership with Cashewapex will enable farmers to benefit from this initiative. “CASHEW has three benefits, and one of them is carbon credit paid to any farmer that plants cashew because of its capacity to trap carbon,” Enemali explained.

The partnership aims to benefit members of the cashew cooperative exclusively. Interested farmers can join the cooperative to take advantage of the benefits, including carbon credit creation. As Enemali noted, “The benefits are for our members only. You can be a member of the cashew cooperative today.”

Those trained at the workshop are expected to share the knowledge acquired down to the villages and hamlets. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and contribute to the growth of the cashew industry.

Recall that the Department of Cooperative, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, had in March 2025 registered and appointed Yunusa Gabriel Enemali as the pioneer President of the National Apex of Cashew Farmers, Processors & Marketing Cooperative to harmonise cashew activities and its value chain.
