The event features a dancing competition where students perform in Chinese and Nigerian dance categories, dressed in captivating costumes and using richly designed props

This cultural exchange program is organized by the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory Secondary Education Board (FCT-SEB).

The program aims to promote cultural understanding and people-to-people friendships between China and Nigeria. As Yang Jianxing, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, noted, “Culture is the foundation of national development and the driving force of social progress… China-Nigeria Cultural Fiesta provides an amazing platform to strengthen the bond of friendship between both countries”.

Also speaking, Muhammed Sani Ladan, Director of the FCT Secondary Education Board, thanked the Chinese Embassy for their continuous collaboration and urged participating students to use the fiesta to learn new cultures, socialize, have fun and win amazing prizes.

Represented by Fatima Gambo Baba, Director of Co-Curricular Activities at FCT-SEB, Ladan noted that the fiesta has become a staple in FCT schools, with each year witnessing significant improvements in student performances.

“I commend the Chinese Corner Schools for their unwavering efforts in making the Fiesta a memorable occasion, and I thank the Chinese Embassy for their sponsorship and support of this annual event,” Ladan said.

The event has become a staple in FCT schools, with each year witnessing significant improvements in student performances. Students from 12 public schools in Abuja participate in the competition, which features categories for Chinese Dance and Nigerian Dance.

Winners receive various prizes, including generator sets, refrigerators, and standing fans, while participating schools are awarded consolation prizes.

The China-Nigeria Cultural Fiesta has become a “well-known cultural brand” and has greatly promoted cultural exchange between the two countries. It’s wonderful to see students from different backgrounds coming together to learn from each other and showcase their talents. Who knows, maybe this event will inspire a new generation of cultural ambassadors!
