China Pledges Support for Nigeria’s Rail Transit Intelligence System

The People’s Republic of China has promised to uphold an open attitude and commitment to mutual benefit on the rail transit intelligence control system with Nigeria.

The public relations officer, Federal University of Transportation (FUT) Daura, Umar Usman, disclosed this in a statement to journalists on Thursday.

According to Mr Usman, the deal, disclosed by Yin Yungong, the deputy general manager of the CRSCI, was expected to yield good results for Nigeria’s transportation system.

Mr Usman added that Mr Yungong revealed this at the closing of a three-week International Seminar on Rail Transit Intelligence Control System held in Beijing and Suzhou, China.

According to Mr Yungong, the participants had successfully completed the planned learning objectives, which prepared them to step into the experience and apply it in transforming the railway transit in Nigeria.

He further explained, “Through this programme, I believe you have gained an understanding of China’s rail transit technology system.

“It has been about practice, deepening your understanding of technical details and enhancing your skills through hands-on experience.

“In the course of carrying out your responsibilities, should you encounter any technical challenge, please do not hesitate to contact CRSCI.

“We promise to be your strong backbone, providing full assistance in resolving the challenges, and jointly promoting the development of rail transit in Nigeria.”

He further hoped that the agreement signed in August 2025, between the CRSCI, the federal ministry of transportation, and the FUT Daura, would open more doors for collaborative projects for both parties.

“As part of our commitment, we will establish a Joint Intelligent Control Research Centre next year.

“We will strengthen cooperation with Nigeria to promote the implementation of projects.

“Such projects include the Abuja-Kaduna Railway upgrade and renovation project, the low altitude security system, operation and maintenance, as well as other new projects,” he added.

Also, the Vice-Chancellor, FUTD, Umar Adam-Katsayal, thanked God Almighty for sparing the lives of the participants to witness the end of the programme.

On behalf of all participants, he thanked the CRSC for extending its hand of friendship to Nigeria and for organising the seminar in a grand style, joining classroom lessons with practical and site visits to ease understanding.

“I have no doubt that we will leave China with so much knowledge and desire to apply it at our places of work and in our personal endeavours back home”, the vice-chancellor said.

Delivering her remarks on behalf of the federal ministry of transportation, Afolabi Olufisayo-Mercy, thanked the organisers of the seminar for their meticulous planning and its hitch-free execution.

According to her, the seminar had equipped Nigerian scholars, engineers, technicians and operators with the competencies to teach, design, implement and sustain the modern railway signalling and operational systems.

“This closing marks a milestone in a broader, strategic partnership that extends beyond technology transfer to trust, shared standards, and a common goal-safe, reliable, and sustainable rail transport for Nigeria,” she said.
