The 2025 China-Nigeria Culture and Tourism Festival has been celebrated in Abuja, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of both nations and strengthening their bilateral relations.
In his opening speech, the Deputy Ambassador of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, H.E. Zhou Hongyou,
expressed delight in attending the festival, highlighting the long history of cultural exchange between China and Nigeria.
“China and Nigeria are both ancient civilizations with a profound historical and cultural heritage,” he said. “China boasts over 5,000 years of history, 56 ethnic groups, and numerous languages and dialects. This cultural diversity has shaped China’s character, which is open, inclusive, and harmonious nationally.”
The Deputy Ambassador emphasized the significance of cultural diversity and mutual learning, citing Chinese President Xi Jinping’s statement that “exchange and mutual learning makes civilization richer and more colorful.” The festival features a range of activities, including cultural performances, art exhibitions, fashion showcases, and culinary delights, showcasing intangible cultural heritage from both countries.
Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, commended the organizers for their efforts in promoting cultural diplomacy and mutual understanding between nations. “Festivals such as these are not just moments of entertainment; they are platforms for cultural diplomacy, creative exchange, and mutual understanding between nations,” he said.
Both nations are committed to deepening their cultural and tourism cooperation, with plans for more joint projects in areas such as cultural heritage preservation, creative industry development, and tourism promotion. The festival is expected to attract visitors, stimulate local economies, and showcase Nigeria’s unique cultural offerings to a global audience.
As the festival comes to a close, both sides are confident that it will be a resounding success, further solidifying the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and China. “May the friendship between Nigeria and China continue to grow in mutual respect and prosperity,” Dr. Muhammad said.
