A Chinese university has stirred widespread online debate after announcing the expulsion of a female student over allegations of having inappropriate contact with a foreign man.
The incident, tied to concerns over “national dignity,” has triggered thousands of reactions across Chinese social media.
Dalian Polytechnic University, located in northeastern China, declared the expulsion of the student, accusing her of breaching a rule about engaging in behavior with foreigners that could harm the country’s image.
According to the university, the alleged actions took place on December 16, 2024, but no detailed description of her conduct was provided.
Her name was published by the university, though many Chinese outlets and global media have chosen not to share it for privacy reasons.
Social media platforms like Xiaohongshu and Douyin have been flooded with posts questioning whether the university overstepped its authority by disciplining a student for her private life.
Many users viewed the decision as unfair and said it reflected double standards and gender bias.
The controversy escalated after videos surfaced online featuring Danylo Teslenko, a Ukrainian gamer known as Zeus, who posted clips of himself with an Asian-looking woman in a hotel room.
While it hasn’t been confirmed whether the woman in the video is the student, the timing of the posts has raised suspicion.
Teslenko has since removed the videos and commented on the matter through his social media, stating there was nothing offensive in the footage.
Critics have also condemned the university’s choice to disclose the student’s identity, calling it a possible breach of personal data laws.
No response has been received yet from the university regarding further questions.
